Vitamin B1 (Thiamin)

Vitamin B1 is a water-soluble vitamin and is part of the vitamin B group.


  • Works with other B group vitamins to release energy from food.
  • Helps the nervous system work.



  • Liver, milk, cheese, bread, fortified breakfast cereals, dried fruit, eggs, potatoes.



Beri Beri is caused by severe shortage of vitamin B1.  It is a muscle wasting disease – only seen in countries where there is food shortage.



It is very rare for someone to consume too much vitamin B1 unless they are taking supplements.
